The VgVK Vienna brings Medieval Combat to where people connect – into schools, public parks, and across borders. Through initiatives like “Medieval Combat Goes to School,” our movement program within Bewegt im Park, and international exchange programs via Erasmus+, we promote physical activity, visibility, and inclusion in sport – especially for children, youth, beginners, and ambitious athletes seeking a pathway into high-performance sport.

Bewegt im Park

Bewegt im Park is a nationwide initiative by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection and the Social Insurance institutions, implemented together with Austria’s umbrella sports organizations such as ASVÖ, Sportunion, and ASKÖ. Its goal is to create free, open-air exercise programs – no registration required, accessible to all ages and fitness levels.

VgVK Vienna is a proud participant, offering free Soft-Sword training sessions for all age groups as part of this initiative. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, participants can playfully explore the basics of Medieval Combat, improve coordination and teamwork – all in a safe, age-appropriate, and fun way.

All sessions are free of charge, non-binding, and open to everyone at any time without registration.

Erasmus+ KA182‑SPO Project

Erasmus+ Sport is the EU’s key funding program for sports clubs and coaches, supporting exchange, training, and international cooperation with societal impact – focusing on inclusion, club development, health, and volunteerism. In Austria, the program is managed by OeAD.

Medieval Combat Goes to School

Since April 2025, VgVK Vienna has been successfully implementing the “Medieval Combat Goes to School” project in Vienna’s educational institutions. Funded by the City of Vienna’s Project Fund for Sport and ASVÖ Vienna, the project gives children and youth easy access to Medieval Combat – directly through physical education classes or school sports events.

Using our specially developed Soft-Sword training system, students can burn off excess energy, improve coordination, and build teamwork skills – all without the risk of injury. VgVK Vienna instructors bring the equipment directly to the schools. For schools, students, and families, there are no costs involved.

The project’s mission is to inspire young people to move and show them that there are exciting alternatives beyond traditional sports.
