VgVK Vienna

The Association for Armored Full Contact Fighting Vienna (VgVK Vienna) was founded in November 2011 and became Austria’s first sports club dedicated to the practice of Medieval Combat (then referred to as "armored full contact fighting") at both competitive and performance sport levels.

From Grassroots to Elite Sport

Alongside its grassroots programs, VgVK Vienna offers athletes the opportunity to train and compete in Medieval Combat as a high-performance sport. The club organizes regular training sessions, specialized workshops, and national tournaments.

Whether preparing for competitions or simply enjoying the sport recreationally without performance goals – every athlete is warmly welcome at VgVK Vienna!

VgVK Vienna has been a member of ASVÖ Wien since December 2011.

VgVK Vienna is a full member of ARMORED COMBAT AUSTRIA, the Austrian governing body for the sport of Medieval Combat.

VgVK Vienna is also a full member of ARMORED COMBAT Vienna, the regional federation for Medieval Combat in Vienna.

Child and Youth Protection

VgVK Wien is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and age-appropriate environment for children and young people in sport. We follow the Child Protection Concept of ARMORED COMBAT AUSTRIA and the standards of 100 % Sport. All our coaches working with minors have completed the Safe Sport eLearning. Clear codes of conduct, transparent procedures, and trained supervision ensure that young people in Medieval Combat can build trust, develop their skills, and train with joy.

A Story of Success

We identify and nurture potential: Whether in the Soft Armored Fighting (SAF) or Buhurt sections of Medieval Combat, VgVK Vienna has produced Austria’s most successful Medieval Combat athletes.Since 2012, our members have earned numerous national and international medals across three continents (Asia, Europe, North America) – including six top placements at World Championships (two IMCF Vice World Champion titles) and three European Championship titles (as of July 2025).

Good Governance and Sustainability

At VgVK Vienna, responsible, transparent, and future-oriented club management is a central priority. This is why we continuously invest in improving our structures and internal processes. In 2025, we participated in the club-development coaching offered through the ASVÖ Vienna programme “Fit for the Future.” The insights gained from this process support us in developing our club sustainably and professionally – for the benefit of our members and the entire Medieval Combat community in Vienna.

Location Development

Beyond our Vienna base, we are actively involved in establishing and developing training locations across Austria. Together with several subsidiary clubs and partner structures, we support new initiatives in setting up training operations – from founding new clubs and educating instructors to full organisational and sporting integration.
